Oh, hi.
What’s up, gentle reader? Damn, I’ve always wanted to say that, LOL.
My Story
So, um, hi… I’m Styles, and I have been a storyteller for as long as I can remember. Storytelling has always been my greatest joy and my primary way to escape from life’s difficulties (and shit’s getting more difficult by the day, fam). As someone who suffers from both panic attacks and a general anxiety disorder, like Martha Wells’ Murderbot, I have always found a safe haven in stories, both as a consumer and creator.
About a year and a half ago, I lost my father after a protracted battle with Parkinson’s. For some reason, something clicked in me during that time, and I began writing VORACIOUSLY. Since then, I have done it during almost every moment of my spare time. I do it obsessively, and I do it with great joy.
Until recently, I never had any interest in the idea of putting my work ‘out there’ because, as a visual artist, I have seen all too well how turning something you love into a job can easily strip the fun from it and make it suck donkey balls. (Also, the idea of reading bad reviews makes me want to throw up, and fandoms can turn on a dime, y’all. I think about what happened to CM Nascosta and the shit people said about Morning Glory, for example). My writing has always been special and just for me. I was not going to risk it.
But as time has passed and I have shared some of my stories with like-minded friends, I’ve found I love reading their stories and having them read mine. I now recognize that it is a pleasure to share my tales in a small way with people who I think will appreciate them. Also, the idea of self-publishing one of my books, simply so I can hold it in my hand and say, ‘I did this,’ has slowly become a bit of a bucket list item for me.
With that in mind, I set up this website and am working towards potentially self-publishing one of my books on Amazon, simply so I can say I did it. And if there are people I connect with, other writers and readers on social media, who like the same kind of stories I love to read and write, and would be interested in reading mine, that would be a neat thing.
Full disclosure: Styles is a pen name. In fact, I basically stole it from one of my own characters (sorry, Mel!) in my story, Mixed Signals. As I'm sure many fellow writers and appreciators of smutty romance can understand, my day job would not be terribly understanding regarding the stuff I love to write about. Besides, we all need a little mystery in our lives along with some romance, right?
So, welcome to my website! As of this writing, there is not much on it yet, but I intend to utilize the blog to post some of my stories—perhaps the ones I feel are less commercial—and also discuss and work through the process of self-publishing one of my books.
So, keep checking back! I’ll try to occasionally add new goodies and stories and keep you apprised of my journey. Please let me know if you know of any good writers’ groups made up of people who like similar things. I’m definitely on the hunt for my people.
May your limited edition Star Wars butt plug only increase in value.
